Beauty before Age - A true story

I am a 62-year old white male, and frankly, I don’t think about how I look all that much. For several years I was a regular patron at a café in Berkeley where I’d have my “usual,” the Vegan Tofu Scramble. I should mention that I am vegan for health and environmental reasons. Although to be honest, I haven’t completely given up Sushi, but I’m working on it.

One morning I noticed a sign advertising something called a Chlorella Matcha Latte, with an explanation that Chlorella (which I had never heard of) is an algae that has been shown to help rid the body of toxins, including heavy metals, such as mercury, arsenic, and lead, which are ubiquitous and therefore very hard for the average person to avoid in their diet. I decided to try it and was instantly hooked on the creamy, smooth texture, the earthy flavor, and the comfortable, uplifting Matcha buzz.

Within weeks I was an addict. Who wouldn’t get hooked on a delicious breakfast beverage that was also so good for you? And to be completely honest, I did do a little independent research in which I discovered that Chlorella is extremely rich in vitamins, minerals, amino acids, essential fatty acids and many other nutrients that are beneficial to your health.

What really surprised me, though, was discovering that Chlorella also has an abundance of nucleic acids, which have powerful rejuvenating properties and regulate the aging process, supporting youthful looking and wrinkle-free skin. In fact, the effects Chlorella may help you live a longer, healthier life.

I am a bit of a skeptic by nature and tend not to put much stock in subjective “anti-aging” claims. Even so, I really loved my weekly “dose” of chlorella and finally, one day asked whether I could purchase some in bulk. I brought the plain, unmarked container to work which I would heat almond milk in the break room and vigorously stir in a serving of deep forest green chlorella matcha powder. If you stir it hard and fast enough you can almost recreate the foamy quality of a latte from the café.

Since the whole process was a bit out of the ordinary I ended up explaining what I was doing over and over to interested colleagues, emphasizing that chlorella had been found to help eliminate heavy metals, but not mentioning the anti-aging effects. I think I was a little concerned about developing a reputation as a “hippie,” or more of a hippie! But then the most interesting thing happened.

It was about three weeks after I started drinking Chlorella Matcha every day that an acquaintance stopped me in the hall. “You look really good,” she said. “You have this healthy glow.” I have to say that I cannot recall this sort of thing ever happening to me before and my mind immediately went to those studies I read claiming that Chlorella helped reduce lines and wrinkles and made people in the study look and feel 6 to 12 years younger.

Not too shabby!
