What are adaptogens and why are they so good for us?

I talk to a lot of people who have never heard of adaptogens. Here's an overview of what they are and how they affect the body.

Adaptogens are a category of herbs and natural substances that help the body adapt to stress and promote balance in the body. They work by supporting the body's ability to maintain homeostasis, or a state of equilibrium, in response to physical, emotional, or environmental stress.

Some examples of adaptogens include ashwagandha, rhodiola, ginseng, and mushrooms. These potent plants have been used for centuries in traditional medicine to support the body's natural healing processes. Unfortunately in western medicine, it's not a go-to-concept.  

Adaptogens are good for you because they can help reduce the negative effects of stress on the body. When we are stressed, our bodies release hormones like cortisol and adrenaline, which can lead to inflammation, fatigue, and other negative health effects.

By supporting the body's ability to adapt to stress, adaptogens can help reduce inflammation, improve energy levels, and support overall health and well-being. They may also have other benefits, such as improving cognitive function, supporting immune function, and promoting healthy aging.

Overall, adaptogens are a natural and effective way to support your body's ability to adapt to stress and promote balance and overall health.
